Expressing oneself or communicating through self expression is
highly therapeutic. These expressions rejuvenate you and they revitalize you.
There are powerful forms of expressions. You can use any of your senses to express
yourself creatively and completely.
Like expressing yourself through words either through speech or
writing. You can express your feelings or emotions through words. Words are
real powerful tools. They bring you out of your depths; they have a way to heal
you once they come out of your system. You can make your journal entries or write
in random paper that can be disposed later or you can even blog in the net
these days .Wherever you are and whatever you write are your messages to the
Universe out there. These words can soothe you, enlighten you and guide you. They can make you cry and they can make you
happy and ultimately you get cleansed of your emotions.
Through art is another way, when you are happy you splash
your art work with brilliant and vibrant colors and when you are sad you splash
them with vivid dark and black shades. Try drawing a picture from your mind
when you are going through difficulties, you will be amazed to see the results.
You can read your art and understand yourself.
Expressing yourself through talks or chats in person or over
phone, talking to someone close to you is highly therapeutic too. At times you need not discuss what is
bothering you but can just talk to someone to boost your mood and that someone
can even be your kids. Talking with kids can do wonders to your moods and these
little kids generally have this happy energy around themselves and that is
really contagious.
Talking
to ones’ parents however old you are is a good form of self expression. They
are your best well wishers in the whole wide world and they don’t judge you, whatever
you say. Their pearls of wisdom are something to go by at all times and seasons
of life.
You can express yourself through music even if you are not
musically talented, you can just listen to good melodies or any catchy tunes you
love and don’t forget to sing or hum along. Depending on your mood, listen to
happy songs or old movies songs. Music evokes the real you in you and it makes
you cry, it makes you feel glorious and it makes you feel wonderful, all at the
same time.
Dance is another form of expression. You can dance to the
tunes of your life accordingly and it can be very self expressive. Dance is a
kind of language that with the natural rhythmic limb movements and abhinayas (facial expressions), you can reflect your
mood. It is a beautiful way of expressing oneself like the peacock that spreads
its wings and dances whenever it sees the clouds that rains. Through that
beautiful gesture, it expresses its happiness.
Using your culinary skills is one way to express oneself. One
can detect the mood of the chef at home by the cooking and menu that particular
day. The flavors and the ingredients merge together with love on the
happy days and things will be out or proportion on crazy days and that happens
to all moms out there.
Teenagers express themselves even through their dressing
style and attitude, in other words through their behavior. Little
kids express themselves through smiles and hugs and kisses. At times there is
nothing healing like a loving touch.
At
times, it is a good idea to escape to another world for a short period of time
by immersing yourself in reading good books. When you read, you get transported
to another world. That short spikes of time can relax you immensely.
Through meditations which have the power to calm your mind,
soothe your heart and touch your very soul. “Be still and know that I am God”.
In the silent threads of time, you can feel the divine presence that surrounds
you like a beautiful breeze. When you sit silently, you express yourself through
your thoughts and they run here and there like moving clouds and in course of
time they disappear. You feel the peace in your mind, body and soul, it fills you
with good energy and that stays with you for the day.
Sometimes you can express yourself through spontaneous prayers
and they come from the bottom of your heart. It is like hearing your heart
having a conversation with God. It is a spiritual way of expressing oneself.
From time to time people resort to some destructive methods
of expressions like shouting at spouses and kids or employees and like eating
too much and end up spending too much when the mood is just not right.
Those are the times you should bring out the creative aspect
in yourself to express. Some of us have trouble communicating self because we
are shy, insecure or think we can’t make any difference to the world . So we
tend to withhold our self expressions to ourselves. Sometimes to express self
we need self acceptance. All of us need to find the courage and confidence to
express and contribute something to the world by just being natural the way we
are. All of us need to get in touch with our inner creativity to learn to
express our emotions, thoughts, wants, needs , attitudes and wishes and so on.
Expressions of self brings out an outlet of your feelings and opinions on
issues and relieves you of stress.
There are multiple ways of self expressions, the
possibilities are endless but suppressing them is never good. It bottles up
inside you and bursts out like an extinct volcano one fine day. It is important
to explicitly express oneself any given day.
As Allen Ginsberg said “Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness.”
So just
bring out the lunatics in you in the form of constructive expressions. I am
